Who is Alvarion?

Alvarion LogoI predicted in an earlier post that 2008 would be the breakout year for broadband wireless service. Seems to me, the broadband wireless market, or more commonly known as the WIMAX market is where WIFI was back in 2000. But unlike WIFI, WIMAX will have a larger market and lead to a whole roster of innovative products and services, especially helping to increase the number of people who can get on the internet.

Google + Sprint + Clearwire = wireless broadband & gPhone!

Rumors are abounding on the internet that Google is coming out with a mobile phone. But that’s not even the big story. Last week, Google and Sprint announced a partnership on broadband mobile internet services. Among other things, Google and Sprint’s partnership aim to offer customers “a new form of interactive communications, high speed Internet browsing, local and location-centric services, and multimedia services including music, video, TV and on-demand products.”

FCC loves the consumer – NOT!

What the heck is up with the FCC protecting the cellphone companies? I was hoping they would make a bold statement this past Tuesday and really open up the 700MHz spectrum for all devices and perhaps even all software. Instead, they have opted for the winner of the spectrum to devote a certain segment for open access. Its some sort of sissy middle ground to keep the cellular giants (ATT, Verizon) happy and also give consumers some choice! What are they thinking?
